How to make pounded yam in a blender.

How to make pounded yam in a blender.

Pounded yam is one of the swallow recipes that I enjoy. It is popularly prepared by pounding boiled yams in a mortal and pestle until smooth, firm and stretchy, but if you will rather not pound, here is how to prepare pounded yam in a blender.... yes! you heard right....... a blender... I know it will be amazing... You will be thinking that how can someone make a pounded yam in a blender..YES! Its possible. You can use this method for cocoyam also (ede ofe).

To make pounded yam in a blender, you don't need a particular brand, a good blender with sharp blades will do the job.

 Here are the steps:
Prep time; 5 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4

Things needed.
  • A blender or food processor.
  • A medium sized pot.

  Ingredients.
  • A tuber of yam.
  • Water (enough to cover the yams when placed in the pot).

Procedures.

1. Cut the yam into a small cubes, peel off the skin and rinse thoroughly.

2. Place in a pot, add enough water to cover the yam, boil until the yam are tender. ( you can poke with a fork to test for doneness). Strain out the water and leave the boiled yam in the pot.

3.  Transfer some of the boiled yam onto a plate and cut into a smaller bits.

Tips;   I like to mash the yam a bit, using a fork, this saves my blender from doing a lot of work but if you have a heavy duty blender, then skip the mashing process.

4. Now, place the yam into a blender (a little at a time) and blend for 20 seconds, stop it every 10 seconds and resume blending.
If your blender has a "pulse button" pulse the blender for 10 seconds, stop and repeat again until the yam are smooth and stretchy.

Observation;  when blending the yam, you would see as the yam goes from crumbly bits around a blender jar, to form a whole "dough" mass in the center of the blender.

5. Scoop out the pounded yam and repeat the process for the remaining yams in the pot.

You can serve the pounded yam with any soup you like......

Enjoy the meal....
