There are many delicious Nigerian snacks loved by native and tourist. Some of them can be baked in the oven and other can be prepared much quicker without it. Keep reading as we take you through how to bake meat pie on a stove.

Meat pie Recipe.

The guide on how to make meat pie below is like the basic cooking pie. You can also add other types of vegetables and change the list of ingredients according to your taste.


  • 8 cups of flour.
  • 0.5kg of margarine or butter.
  • 2 teaspoon of baking powder.
  • 2_4 pinches of salt ( according to your taste ).
  • 1.5_2cups of water.
  • 2 medium sized pieces of carrots.
  • 2 medium sized pieces of potatoes.
  • 1 medium sized piece of onion.
  • 0.5kg of meat.
  • 2 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  • 1 piece of egg.
  • 2 piece of knorrh chicken.
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme.

The cooking process is divided into 3 main stages.

  1. Making the dough for the pie.
  2. Making the filling.
  3. Baking the decorating the snacks.

How to prepare the dough.

Step1:   You need a big bowl. Add the 8 cups of flour into the bowl.

Step2:   mix a bit of salt (1_2 pinches ) and the baking powder with the flour.

How to make the filling.

Step1:  when you begin to work on the dough, you can also start working on the filling.                      Firstly,  Peel and scrape your vegetables then wash them, it is better to cut                             both potatoes and carrots into small cubes.

Step2:  Onions needs to be wash as well, then you can also slice it into small pieces.

Step3:  Take out your frying pan and put it on a stove, then add oil. You can heat it at                          the medium heat and fry onion pieces, add minced meat and stir everything                            together.

Step4:  When you see that meat looks pale, you can pour a cup of water. Also, add                             thyme and seasoning cubes. You can wait for this ingredients to heat well under                     the cover.

Step5:  Once the ingredients on fire begins to bubble, you can mix in the sliced                                   potatoes and carrots from step1. Let everything cook for a while. All the                                 vegetable should look well_done.

Step6:  Take 0.5 cups of water and add to 2 teaspoon of flour, make sure the water is                        cold, then add the mixture to the ingredients you are cooking. This will help the                      pie to be moist.

Step7:  The filling is almost ready. Finish it by adding a pinch of salt, it is all up to your                       personal taste.

How to make meat pie.

Step 1: The  Nigerian meat pie making process continues when you have the dough                              and filling ready for it. Since we are using the Nigerian stove, you also need it                         to make a popular snacks.

Step2:  It is better to prepare a aluminium pot you will use for baking the pies, it is                        important to add a clean sand to the bottom of the aluminium pot. While it is                          preheating, you can form the pies.

Step3:  You need to roll out the dough, it should be 0.5cm thick.

Step4:  Cut out the round pieces from the dough using the cutter. All the left over                                should be set aside.

Step8:   Place the pies into the baking pan and inside the preheated big aluminium pot                       with sand. The process will take about half an hour. Sometimes this Nigerian                         snacks take 40_50 minutes to bake.

Step9: It is better to keep an eye to the meat pie and flip the pieces every 5_7                                        minutes  to avoid burning.
